1 Nov -- HOMEGROWN ELECTRONIC components distributor Serial System, which started as a one-man operation at the back of a florist shop, marked its silver jubilee celebrations with substantial charity donations at an event graced by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
Founded in 1988 by Dr. Derek Goh, the current Executive Chairman of Serial System, and listed on the Singapore Exchange since March 1997, Serial System now has over 800 employees in 50 offices across 12 countries.
One of Asia’s leading distributors of electronic components, it recorded revenue of US$600 million for the nine-month period ended 30 September 2013.
Dr. Goh handed out cheques of S$150,000 to mayors or representatives of each of five Community Development Councils (“CDCs”).

For each CDC, Serial System is donating S$100,000 while Zhi Zhen Tan Dao Xue Hui (“Zhi Zhen Tan” or “旨真壇道学会”) – a Taoist charity organization founded by Dr. Goh – will pledge S$50,000.
With the help of the government matching, both Serial System and Zhi Zhen Tan have committed to raise S$4.5 million over three years, from 2014 to 2016.

At the event held at Resorts World Singapore, attended by several distinguished ministers, foreign delegates, customers, suppliers, bankers, business partners, guests and staff, Serial System and Zhi Zhen Tan also committed to a three-year programme with the Children’s Society, for a total of $105,000 to be distributed equally over the course of the programme.
The virtue of giving back to society has been deeply imbued in the Serial System’s corporate culture.

This year, Serial System also contributed S$100,000 towards the building of Xinmin Secondary School’s Creative Arts Complex and S$75,000, as co-sponsor of the World Learner Exchange Scholarship, to be disbursed over three years.

For over a quarter century, Serial System has carved a niche as a trusted and value-added distributor of electronic components, bridging the supplier and the customer.
It combines advanced supply chain with business intelligence to facilitate demand creation and help its customers to be more competitive.
"Serial System is on track to reaching its immediate goal of crossing the S$1 billion mark for its revenue this year.

"We would like to convey our deepest appreciation to our friends, customers, supplies and bankers for their support in the past 25 years. Their support has helped Serial System to go through the years and we owe our success to all of you."
