1 Nov -- HOMEGROWN ELECTRONIC components distributor Serial System, which started as a one-man operation at the back of a florist shop, marked its silver jubilee celebrations with substantial charity donations at an event graced by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee  Hean.


Founded in 1988 by Dr. Derek Goh, the current Executive Chairman of Serial System, and listed on the Singapore Exchange since March 1997, Serial System now has over 800 employees in 50 offices across 12 countries.

One of Asia’s leading distributors of electronic components, it recorded revenue of US$600 million for the nine-month period ended 30 September 2013.

Dr. Goh handed out cheques of S$150,000 to mayors or representatives of each of five Community Development Councils (“CDCs”).

For each CDC, Serial System is donating S$100,000 while Zhi Zhen Tan Dao Xue Hui (“Zhi Zhen Tan” or “旨真壇道学会”) – a Taoist charity organization founded by Dr. Goh – will pledge S$50,000. 

With the help of the government matching, both Serial System and Zhi Zhen Tan have committed to raise S$4.5 million over three years, from 2014 to 2016.

SS_kenny_ronsimKenny Yap, executive chairman of Qian Hu Corp, with Ron Sim, executive chairman & CEO of Osim.Apart from its contribution to the CDCs, Serial System also presented S$100,000 and S$150,000 to Nanyang Technological University to set up the Serial System Ltd Bursary Fund and the Serial System Scholarship Fund, valued at S$250,000 and S$375,000, respectively, after a 1.5 times match by the government.

At the event held at Resorts World Singapore, attended by several distinguished ministers, foreign delegates, customers, suppliers, bankers, business partners, guests and staff, Serial System and Zhi Zhen Tan also committed to a three-year programme with the Children’s Society, for a total of $105,000 to be distributed equally over the course of the programme.  

The virtue of giving back to society has been deeply imbued in the Serial System’s corporate culture.

The Group has also contributed to charitable organisations such as the National Council of Social Services, Loving Heart Multi-Service Center, Club Rainbow (Singapore) and MENDAKI.

This year, Serial System also contributed S$100,000 towards the building of Xinmin Secondary School’s Creative Arts Complex and S$75,000, as co-sponsor of the World Learner Exchange Scholarship, to be disbursed over three years.

Is is delighted that Serial made lots of money and did lots of charity donation, but dont forget the faithful shareholders
