Agree with key points. I think we lack a lot of factors in our market and the more we try to list Chinese stock in Spore the more problem we will face down the road. Not forgeting we are need to nurture our company to a higher playing field now that MNC cannot be relied on. Where we excel are infrastructure, strong Corp governance in local Spore Co. and Governmt/stability! So long as we continue to be focus and other remain distracted, we must not blindly emulate HK/China to our demised!! Danielxx wrote:

There\'re several: 1. Prone to manipulation. Just look at how those stocks with structured warrants are run by market makers to create maximum value for them and negative value for the buyers 2. Too momentum-driven. People buy when analysts issue reports but ignore value otherwise. Brokers make use of this fact to drive down prices. It also eases manipulation by bigger player. 3. Lack of local tycoons. Unlike HK market where you have billionaires like Lee Shau-Kee doing stockpicking and acting as supporters of value, what do we have here? Oei Hong Leong offering 60 cents for Japan Land? This is important because without wealthy retail players, you won\'t have strong hands (funds subject to investment mandates with a list of index stocks which they can only buy don\'t count).

Agreed. Let\'s start by getting our Temasek and GIC to invest in promising companie. Rather than throwing money away at the US banks and Australian childcare companies, Ho Ching and her team should really study and identify promising Singapore Inc that can shine in global stage. OSIM, Eu Yan Sang, Venture Corp, even HTL etc... These are companies who have outperform the market and grew to a reasonable size to take on the global players. Why did our Temasek turn a blind eye to them ?? If they can buy OLAM, why not support our local SME ?? Somebody should help us raise this question at the next Parliament hearing! Yes, GLC and TLC companies are important but the SMEs can also be the star tomorrow.

Goodpack is a classic example. They are the leader in their space. BUT Temasek did not even bother to look at them. It is the China CIMC who took a fancy on them and bought a substantial stake in them through open market. Our own investment gurus at Temasek don\'t even care for the Singapore Inc. It takes a Chinese man to see the value of what Goodpack is doing! Sad. It is a really sad case.

Is Goodpack coming back onto investors' radar screen. I see there is an article today on www.nexinsight.net
At $1.65, is it under-discovered? PE is about 16X. Hmmmmm

Goodpack in my opinion, might have some problem with their packaging - although small occurrences, but still problematic to customers. The collection of empty totes could be logistically nightmare. With the disposable Japanese/US products, they have competitors.
