Dow is up 226 points! “We’re in an oversold market plus we have economic data such as U.S. home sales coming out ahead of expectations,” said Hank Smith, who helps oversee $6 billion as chief investment officer of Haverford Trust Co. in Radnor, Pennsylvania. “The fundamentals are improving, notwithstanding the problems in the banking system in Europe.” B) June 2 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks rallied, sending benchmark indexes to their third-biggest gains of 2010, and Treasuries fell as growth in home sales and signs of improving bank finances bolstered optimism in the economy. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index climbed 2.6 percent to 1,098.38 at 4 p.m. in New York, with Halliburton Co. and Schlumberger Ltd. leading gains in oilfield-services companies after their shares slumped yesterday on BP Plc’s failure to halt the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The MSCI World Index of stocks in 24 developed nations rose 1.1 percent, erasing a 0.9 percent earlier drop. Ten-year Treasury yields rose 8 basis points to 3.35 percent. The yen slid versus 15 major currencies following Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama’s resignation.

Oops, Monday\'s gonna be weak? The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 324.06 points, or 3.2 percent, to 9,931.22. Reason: Jobs data showed that jobs growth was not as strong as expected in May. :( Monday may be a good opportunity to buy stocks I have been waiting for at bargain prices. :) Funny thing about markets is, one day u can hv strong data on something and the next, lousy data on something. The volatility is a bit too much even if you are a long term investor.

Hi Morpheus, life would get quite exciting if ...... Asiatravel.com falls below 30 cents (was 70 sometime this year), ....China Gaoxian below 12 cents (in which case the PE could be just 1.5X this year\'s earnings), .... Guocoleisure below 40 cents (about half of the peak this yr), .... Broadway below 80 cents.

the feeling that there is no end to the euro crisis is getting stronger, which may mean that confidence level could be at its lowest. Time and again when euphoria is at the peak, stock market corrects; when pessimism filled the mkt, it rallies. While we cant predict hw far the stock mkt will drop, it could be a sign that they are unlikely to fall much in the short-term. Lets hope that a reversal will come soon in the wake of some good news to solve the Euro problems. :woohoo:

Hi Sean, let\'s consider the main positive, which is the US economic recovery. Consumer spending is up, household income is up. The blip in employment numbers is just for last month but the overall pic is an uptrend. And u know, the interest rates are so very low. As for the eurozone ....sigh. It will take a while for stability to return.
