Tactician/Observer2 – Interesting thoughts. As I have said before, use local knowledge or common sense or whatever works. Though I am a big fan of Buffett ( most of his investments are in US ), don't think we can blindly use his strategies wholesale when it comes to bourses of developing countries unless maybe if we stick strictly to super Blue Chips only.
Even Asia’s relatively more developed SGX is very tiny and lacks depth of world class companies compared to Dow ( or S&P/Nasdaq ). Asian bourses are easily manipulated or cornered ( except maybe Japan? ), especially small caps, so be careful when such counters defy gravity or may end up holding the baby when the tide goes down.
Unfortunately, the reality is that the rich-poor gap will continue to widen globally. The financial markets may look simple, but actually very complex and wired such that normal folks have huge disadvantage. I think Andrew Vandernum’s article “ My 22 Yrs of Playing With A-Shares ” dated 2/6/13 sums it well and I quote the last part. Certainly not win-win.
“He doesn’t mince words when describing his “peer” investors, yet also concedes that his enviable performance since 1991 has sometimes come down to basic blind luck.
“The A-share markets are still immature, no matter what anyone says. Most investors are also immature and dare I say rather gullible and ignorant. Thanks to them, I have done quite well for myself in the market.”
At the end of the day, he said exercising due diligence prior to settling on any stock was of paramount importance.
“The most important thing prior to making any move is doing your homework first. If you haven’t done your homework, you have no business sitting down to take the exam.”

newbiestock, this is an indian company which produces pesticide and pigment. It seems to be diversifying into producing Chlorinated Polyvinyl Choride chemical[essential materials for manufactuing PVC pipe] thru JV with Kaneka and Mitsui.
I am just looking at it. Don't buy now as there is little market interest now and we may get stuck for a long time. It caught my attention as profit has improved significantly and it announces div. Just monitor to see if volume starts to come.
I see. Didnt know gt indian company listed in sgx.
Relaxing is right. The quality of listed companies here in asia is still far from the league like those in western countries.
I also wan to find a good sg company but none fit the criteria. Either the share price has gone up quite a lot or the growth potential has hit the peak. Those sg companies venturing into myanmar is out of my list as i think overseas expansion, esp in a developing country is too risky. As for reits, i think most hv gone up quite a lot. Not touching property or construction as i dun think upside will be much. As for service company like breadtalk or healthcare sector, i also nt touching as sg facing labour crunch.
Seriously i dunno wat gd sg company can buy liao. So ya... still sticking to s chip
