About 2 months ago, ie the 3rd week of Sept, as stocks started to stir, we asked 11 private Singaporean investors to share their picks, with a goal in mind: Select stocks that will finish the year with the biggest bang, ie the highest percentage gain.
(The initial story: The bull looks strong. Here are 28 stock picks of 11 private investors)
Since then, 9 out of their 28 picks have chalked up double-digit gains. That's remarkable.
And 3 achieved impressive gains: 87%, 34% and 31%, respectively.
Let's talk about this leading trio:
• First up we have Nasdaq-listed Hims & Hers (market cap: US$6.8 billion), which is all about making healthcare accessible online, allowing users to consult with licensed healthcare professionals remotely.
• Next is Tesla. Who hasn't heard of the Nasdaq-listed Tesla (market cap: US$1.1 trillion)? It's the world's largest producer of battery electric cars, but it is much more.
Tesla is "the largest AI project on Earth," as CEO of ARK Investment Management Cathie Wood describes it.
Applying AI through its supercomputer Dojo, Tesla is on the verge of developing robotaxis and humanoid robots, and full self-driving (FSD) capability for its cars and trucks.
• Over in HK, Launch Tech (market cap: HK$2.7 billion) specializes in providing a wide range of products and services for the automotive aftermarket.
These include advanced automotive diagnostic and testing technologies to clients (mostly motor workshops big and small) in over 200 countries.

Interestingly, the 3 companies share several similarities but are different in some ways:
1. While totally different, their products are innovative and important to their respective industries.
2. The market caps of Hims & Hers and Tesla are in multi-billion US dollars while Launch Tech's is more modest at HK$2.7 billion (~S$500 million).
3. In terms of PE ratio, Tesla and Hims & Hers are in the stratosphere at 70+ and 90+ respectively, and the companies have not paid a dividend.
Launch Tech's PE is far humbler at 10 -- and comes with a dividend yield of 7%! (Launch Tech starting paying dividends in FY23 and has paid an interim in 1HFY24).

Aside from those 3 stocks, the table below shows the rest of the 28 picks by the 11 investors.
They reflect the investors' diverse interests, diverse investing approaches and risk appetites.
Thus their selections are not recommendations for investment for readers. Your risk profile and investment objectives may differ significantly from theirs.
Those with double-digit gains are highlighted in yellow while the top 3 gainers, in brown.
We'll update the stocks' performance one more time at the finish line -- ie end of 2024.
With Hims & Hers so far ahead of the pack, who else might be among the other top 3 "winners"?
