YOU PROBABLY WON’T FIND a lot of firms with as many high-profile, multi-application clients as Suzhou Boamax Technologies Group Co Ltd (SZA: 002514).

The Jiangsu Province-based metal fabricator counts among its clients NCR – the world’s top name in ATMs and retail POS kiosks -- which means the housings Suzhou Boamax shapes are “touched” by billions around the world on a regular basis

Boamax -- which sold over 267 mln yuan in goods in 2010 -- also has strong manufacturing ties with foreign powerhouses like Tyco Electronics, Schneider Electric and a growing list of major plays in the US electronics, medical, telecom and new energy sectors.

Boamax’s strong client relationships with big US names is helping the Shenzhen-listed firm’s push to be a force to be reckoned with in China, especially with the lucrative and fast-growing solar industry equipment supply trade.

Founded in 2001 with Taiwanese investment and listed in Shenzhen in 2010, Boamax converted into a corporation in 2007 and was from the outset at the cutting edge of metal cutting and shaping technology.

This was thanks to the firm’s early commitment to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) fabrication processes, a leading technology that greatly increases efficiency while cutting costs.

CNC provides flexible manufacturing capability without requiring expensive traditional dies and stamping presses.

“CNC sheet metal production is considered a new industry, originating from military-industrial and aviation applications,” Boamax said on its official website.

“It is suitable for customized final products whose features include small-volume, multi-variety, big dimension and rapid technological updating.”

This is the perfect recipe for a company who makes the metal housings for a countless array of products – from IT storage systems and self check-in kiosks at the airport, to solar panel equipment and ATMs outside your local bank.

“Our main business is applying CNC sheet metal technology to research, develop, design, manufacture and sell industrial grade structural CNC sheet metal products mainly to world-famous companies,” Boamax said.

The East China-based manufacturer is not exaggerating, as its list of committed clients runs like a laundry list of well-known tech firms, and includes Alcatel-Lucent, Delta, NCR, Flextronics, Schneider, Teradyne, Celestica and Tyco, to name just a few.

“We’re committed to providing all-round solutions to our customers, including structural design, sample development, structure performance testing, structural parts manufacturing, structure assembly, after-sales maintenance of sheet metal structural products and technical support,” Boamax added.

That means the firm needs to constantly work to not only keep up with the competition in the fast-changing world of metal fabrication, but ahead of its peers if it wanted to keep the orders coming in from the established names.

Having such a Who’s Who style list of global clientele certainly provided a lot of clout for Boamax when customers were looking to initiate or renew orders.

And helping solidify its reputation as a high-tech heavyweight was Boamax’s being given ISO9001 accreditation back in 2003 – less than two years after the firm’s establishment.

Never to get complacent on the technical side, Boamax implemented ROHS management practices in 2004, introduced its ERP management system in 2005, obtained ISO14000 status in 2007 and won UL and VDE certification the following year.

Back home in China, the company has expressed strong confidence that the status it has earned landing such high-profile supply contract with the major names overseas will help it fill up its order book in the PRC.

This is especially true for the high-flying solar sector -- a growing customer of Boamax – as well as the long-stated goal of China’s economic planners to tap the true potential of the 1.3 billion-consumer strong domestic market.

“As we all know, world-renowned enterprises have strict requirements on their vendors, and only a few companies can pass their qualified vendors certification and thus maintain a long-term cooperation with them.

"We positioned ourselves to provide products and services to world-renowned clients and we also have a good reputation among our customers -- an indication of our company's comprehensive strength and an important advantage to participate in market competition,” Boamax added.
