By the way, Derek Goh told of how Serial was approached to take a 20% stake in Alibaba many years ago. Yes, Alibaba -- and he decided it was too risky for his company to do so. At that time, Serial had a profit of $3 m while Alibaba had a loss of $30 m and the red ink was still pouring.
If... Serial had taken the 20% stake, the take would be worth about US$40 billion currently. And lots of minority investors in Serial would have made many millions of $. And Derek would be richer than anyone else in Singapore!
Stocks with high P/E ratios can be overpriced. Serial has shot up a lot to 17.1 cents from 13 cents prior to results announcement. Is a stock with a lower P/E always a better investment than a stock with a higher one? The case with Serial proves it. When it was only 5X it was dirt cheap, cf to now at 7X.
