Archie, dun understand your point but I find this company better than many other construction plus property development companies. Read below...
Excerpts from latest analyst reports....
Maybank KE highlights Lian Beng's slew of upcoming launches
Analyst: Alison FOK
Ong Pang Aik, chairman and MD of Lian Beng Group. NextInsight file photo
Launches to start in October. Lian Beng has received the outline planning provision for its respective stakes in property development, and we expect the launch of Hong Leong Gardens to take place in October.
The group holds a 10% stake in Hong Leong Gardens with Oxley Holdings leading the consortium.
It is zoned for mixed use, and we expect selling prices for residential and retail space at SGD1,500psf and SGD3,000psf, respectively.
Secured contracts. Construction remains the core business, accounting for 75% of sales.
Lian Beng has secured a 50% stake in a contract worth SGD169m for 361 units in Thomson Grand with Paul Y C&E.
Works started in August and this job has boosted its construction order book to SGD736.4m, which will be recognised through to 2015.
Steamrolling ahead. We like Lian Beng for its superior construction order book with an even mix of public and private projects, as well as a slew of properties slated for launch over the next few months.
Maintain BUY with a target price of SGD0.63 pegged at 6x FYMay13 PER, backed by an attractive dividend yield of 4.7%.
Recent story: LIAN BENG GROUP: $43 m free cash flow a year till 2015 |

There is a hell of a lot of work for construction companies in the next few years yet the boom times are not pushing the valuation of these companies up beyond 4-5-6 X PE. Perhaps it is time for a re-rating of this bunch of stocks, such as Lian Beng, Tiong Seng, Yongnam. What do you think? |

Ah Beng, so is it due to the one-off gain or a revised accounting standard or both? That means LB's qtrly profit prospects would only be abt S$10mil from now onwards, which is not too impressive. Is there any other fundamental reason/s as the construction activities would have to slow down looking ahead. Thanks. |

Perhaps there will be a knee jerk reaction tomorrow based on Lian Beng's 44.9% year-on-year (yoy) decrease in profit to shareholders to S$10.5 million for 1QY2013.
Note that 1Q12 ($19.1 million in net profit) included a one-off gain of S$7.9 million on the sale of an investment property.
Got lower revenue recognition in 1Q13 because of the adoption of revised financial reporting standard INT FRS 115.

Tai Sin -- keep your eye on this stock. Waiting for final dividend to be OK-ed at AGM soon. The full year yield is 8+% ... 2.1 cents dividend by 25 stock price x 100% = 8.4%

Cheap undervalued at 43 cents, Lian Beng has such a gigantic orderbook that it would qualify as a defensive stock. |

I think it is only matter of time for Yongnam to play the catch up... especially with the large amount of infrastructure projects coming up NOT only in Singapore but the region. I was recently in a seminar and was told that Thailand is also spending aggressively in their infrastructure with new airports as well.
Contract win in the near future will trigger interest and price will move north.. meanwhile i am happy to sit and wait at this price with a 1 cent yearly dividend which is still much better than the bank interest.
I will limited downside for this counter as they have been at this price level for years... and didn't take care of the recent rally.

Comparing Pan-United with Yongnam >
Pan-United PE ratio already almost 10X. Dividend yield is 5-6%.
On the other hand, Yongnam still 5X PE, Dividend yield is 4-5%.
Yongnam is stuck at around 23-23.5 cents. How to unglue it? |

Forget the crazy thought of 4 cents in dividend. Today's Maybank report has 2 cents payout for the next 3 years, so the yield is 5%.
The target price is the more interesting thing.... 63 cents.... the stock is moving strongly on good vol today. 40.5 cents as I write |

Lian Beng is too attractive a stock not to buy. Construction isnt sexy but Lian Beng has diversified into property development with partners.
Latest NAV is 44 cents, higher than the 40 cent stock price. Stock is under book value!
Profit margin was 11% -- pretty cool for its business. My guess is the stock price catalyst will be the TAIWAN listing of its subsidiary. Should be coming soon. |
